Review - The Nothing that is - Robert Kaplan

Visit bookshop

Subtitled 'A Natural History of Zero', this is a very enjoyable tour around that most significant gap in our counting system, zero.

It is entertaining and makes it obvious why zero is so important, with plenty of historical and philosophical context, but never getting heavy. It very nearly makes it to five stars - the only reason it is held back a little is that Kaplan can't resist getting a little whimsical and/or flowery at times in a way that sits uncomfortably with the subject.
