Gift Review - Science Museum Solar Airship
This is is really a huge black binliner eight metres long - but don't let that worry you, it's great. It's not going to carry you off into the sky as the photo suggests, but it will fly in the most amazing way.
Fill it with air by running along with the mouth open and tie up the end, then wait. It begins to wriggle and pulse as if its alive, and then, gradually, majestically, it takes off. It's a real crowd stopper - everyone's impressed.
We found you do need a day with very little wind and clear blue skies - unless it's in full sun it doesn't have enough lift because it works by solar heating of the air inside - but it's well worth getting good conditions.
Great fun because of the sheer scale of the thing.
