Matt
Ridley
(1958 -)
Matt Ridley is the author of the international best-seller Genome, as well as The Origins of Virtue, The Red Queen and Nature via Nurture. His books have been translated into 23 languages and have been short-listed for six literary prizes. He has BA and DPhil degrees from Oxford University in zoology and was science editor and American editor of the Economist between 1983 and 1992.
Ridley was a columnist for the Sunday and Daily Telegraph between 1993 and 2000. He was the founding chairman of the International Centre for Life, a £70 million science park and education project, between 1996 and 2003. He is currently non-executive chairman of Northern Rock plc.
Ridley is married to Dr. Anya Hurlbert, Reader in Visual Neuroscience, University of Newcastle upon Tyne. They have two children.
